03 | Everyday Mission

Almost every September we do a short series together on Sundays and in our Communities around our Core Priorities: Gospel Formation, Life in Community, and Everyday Mission. Our desire is to continue year after year to return to the key aspects of following Jesus with an intention to wrap our heads, hearts, and lives around him and his work in the world. 1 Peter is written to “elect exiles,” disciples of Jesus who are scattered all around the Roman Empire, trying to figure out how to follow Jesus in a world radically opposed to Him and His way. He writes to remind them of the Story they are in and the work God has done for them, and to call them to live with a whole-life allegiance to Jesus and His Kingdom.

Questions for Discussion

  1. Read 1 Peter 2:9-17 and 3:13-17. Answer the 4 Questions: Who is God? What has he done? Who are we? How ought we live?

  2. When you think of the church’s mission, what comes to mind?

  3. As you think about the coming year, how do you need to grow in boldness around the mission of the Gospel, and what steps will you take to do so?

  4. Who/what/where is your mission field, and in what ways will you connect?

  5. Which neighbor(s) is the Spirit giving you favor with, and how will you love them in word and deed?

Our desire is to continue year after year to return to the key aspects of following Jesus with an intention to wrap our heads, hearts, and lives around him and his work in the world. 1 Peter is written to “elect exiles,” disciples of Jesus who are scattered all around the Roman Empire, trying to figure out how to follow Jesus in a world radically opposed to Him and His way. He writes to remind them of the Story they are in and the work God has done for them, and to call them to live with a whole-life allegiance to Jesus and His Kingdom. His first priority is to see them make a clean break from the ways of the world and to grow increasingly into the character and ways of God, motivated by their new status as adopted children through the precious blood of Jesus.

Questions for Discussion

  1. Read 1 Peter 1.13-2.1. Answer the 4 Questions: Who is God? What has he done? Who are we? How ought we live?

  2. As you think about the coming year, how do you need to grow or mature? What is the Spirit calling you toward?

  3. What steps can you take this year to grow in the gospel? What habits or rhythms need to be put in place?
