The Spirit of Adoption
The Spirit of Adoption
Romans is the Apostle Paul’s fullest and clearest treatise on the gospel of Jesus Christ. Throughout history, this letter has opened eyes, awakened hearts, and set movements in motion. It’s both profoundly theological and deeply personal, revealing the truth about God, humanity, and salvation. John Stott rightly called Romans a manifesto of freedom in Christ - a freedom that remakes our lives, forms us into God’s people, and sends us as witnesses of Jesus in the world.

1. What is the difference between “a spirit of slavery” and “a spirit of adoption?”
2. Why does Paul say we must also suffer with Christ before the glory comes?
3. Trying to "earn your adoption" through the self-righteousness trap leads to a life of either hiding or performing. Which of those two tends to be your default response when you fail?
4. "Abba" means something like "daddy." Does that kind of intimacy with God feel natural to you, or does it feel awkward or distant? What do you think shapes that?
